In the aftermath of man-made and natural disasters that have devastated many areas of our country, public safety communications centers have faced tremendous challenges. One of the greatest challenges was maintaining adequate staffing levels of the communications centers.
To address this problem and expand on some of the initiatives already in place, Association of Public Safety Communication Officials (APCO) International and the National Emergency Number Association (NENA) created the National Joint TERT Initiative (NJTI). Since November 2006, the NJTI has worked to develop State TERT programs across the United States.
The NJTI currently recognizes 18 states as TERT deployable with 25 other states in the certification process. Kansas TERT or KS-TERT, is a deployable state with over 50 members, including Regional Coordinators, Team Leaders and Team Members.
