17-112 Kansas National Guard supports Veterans Day events
 

Soldiers, Airmen and units of the Kansas National Guard will be supporting a number of Veterans Day events across the state.

Events scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 9

Ashland – Maj. Gen. Lee Tafanelli, the adjutant general, will be the guest speaker for a Veterans Day ceremony at Ashland High School, 311 N J E Humphreys St. at 9 a.m.

McLouth – Lt. Col. Shawn Miller, commander, 1st Battalion, 161st Field Artillery, will be the guest speaker for a Veterans Day assembly at McLouth Elementary School, 271 Summit St. The assembly begins at 9:15 a.m.

Mulvane – Airmen of the 184th Intelligence Wing will take part in Veterans Day events at Mulvane Grade School, 411 SE Louis Blvd.

Overland Park – Soldiers of Company B, 2nd Combined Arms Battalion, 137th Infantry will display an M1A2 Abrams tank from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. as part of the 10th anniversary Sprint Veterans Day Celebration on the Sprint campus, 117th and Nall. The 1st Battalion, 108th Aviation will also have a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter on static display.

Tecumseh – Staff Sgt. Marc Limon, readiness noncommissioned officer for Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st battalion, 108th Aviation, will be the guest speaker for a Veterans Day Recognition Assembly at Tecumseh South Elementary, 3346 SE Tecumseh Rd. The ceremony will begin at 8 a.m. at the school Wylie Coyote, mascot of the 190th Air Refueling Wing, will also be present to meet with the children.

Wichita – The 184th Intelligence Wing Honor Guard will conduct a flag folding ceremony at a Veterans Day event at Woodland Elementary School, 1705 N Salina Ave., beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Winchester – Soldiers of the 35th Infantry Division will provide a color guard for a Veterans Day ceremony at Jefferson County North High School, 302 5th St. The program begins at 1:30 p.m.

Events scheduled for Friday, Nov. 10

Carbondale – Master Sgt. Summer Walters, 190th Air Refueling Wing, will be the guest speaker for a Veterans Day Assembly at Carbondale Attendance Center, 315 N. 4th St. The assembly begins at 1:30 p.m.

Conway Springs -- The 184th Intelligence Wing Honor Guard will conduct a flag folding ceremony at St. Joseph Catholic School, 218 N. 5th St., at 10:30 a.m.

Hays – Soldiers of the 997th Brigade Support Battalion will provide a static display in conjunction with the Fort Hays State university football game.  Kick off is at 2 p.m.

Fredonia – Sgt. 1st Class Brian Blandamer, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 891st Engineer Battalion, will be the guest speaker at a ceremony at Fredonia Junior/Senior High School, 916 Robinson, at 11 a.m.

Gardner – Lt. Col. Ted L. Culbertson Jr., director of Student Affairs, Command and General Staff Officers College, Fort Leavenworth, will be the guest speaker for a 1 p.m. Veterans Day Celebration at Gardner-Edgerton High School, 425 N. Waverly Rd., Gardner.

Hiawatha – Soldiers of Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 2nd Battalion, 130th Field Artillery will provide the color guard for a Veterans Appreciation event at Hiawatha High School, 600 Red Hawk Drive. The event begins at 1 p.m.

Osawatomie – Battery B, 2nd Battalion, 130th Field Artillery Event will present a static display of military equipment for a Veterans Day observance at Osawatomie High School, 1200 Trojan Drive. Command Sgt. Maj. Harold Whitley, state command sergeant major, will be the guest speaker for the event which begins at 1 p.m.

Oskaloosa – Soldiers and military vehicles of Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 2nd Battalion, 130th Field Artillery will take part in a Veterans Day parade in downtown Oskaloosa, beginning at 1 p.m. Lt. Col. Matthew Twombly, deputy commander, 130th Field Artillery Brigade, will the guest speaker at a Veterans Day event at Oskaloosa High School, 404 Park St., beginning at 2 p.m.

Perry – Chief Master Sgt. Troy Abel, 190th Air Refueling Wing, will be the guest speaker for a Veterans Day Tribute at Perry-Lecompton Middle School, 404 Lecompton road. The program begins at 8:30 a.m.

Pratt – Soldiers of the 1161st Forward Support Company will provide a color guard for a Veterans Day ceremony at the B-29 All Veteran’s Memorial at the Pratt airport.

Salina – Soldiers from the Regional Training Site – Maintenance will provide the color guard for a Veterans Day ceremony at Salina Area Technical College, 2562 Centennial Rd. The ceremony begins at 9:30 a.m.

Topeka – Col. Roger Murdock, chief of the Joint Staff, Kansas National Guard, will the guest speaker at the Topeka South Rotary Club. The event begins at 7:15 a.m. in the Kansas Room of the Memorial Union, Washburn University.

Valley Center – Col. Bradley Hilbert will be the guest speaker at the 50th commemoration of the Vietnam War Veteran’s Committee. The ceremony starts at 8 a.m. at 800 N. Meridian.

Wichita -- The 184th Intelligence Wing Honor Guard will conduct a flag folding ceremony at a Veterans Day event at St. Francis Hospital, 929 N. St. Francis, at 8 a.m.

Wichita -- The 184th Intelligence Wing Honor Guard will present the colors at a Veterans Day event at Regent Park Rehabilitation & Healthcare, 10604 E. 13th St. North. The ceremony begins at 10 a.m.

Yates Center -- Maj. Gen. Lee Tafanelli, the adjutant general, will be the guest speaker for a Veterans Day ceremony Yates Center High School, 105 W Bell St, beginning at 10 a.m.

Events scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 11

Augusta – Master Sgt. Robert Wilson, 177th Information Aggressor Squadron, will be providing tours at the Kansas Museum of Military History, 135 Walnut St., from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Blue Rapids – Battery B, 2nd Battalion, 130th Field Artillery will drive a High Mobility Artillery Rocket System vehicle in the Veterans Day parade in downtown Blue Rapids beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Clifton – Maj. Peter Euler, logistics officer, 130th Field Artillery Brigade, will be the guest speaker at Clifton Veterans Day Parade/Ceremonies hosted by the American Legion. The parade is on Main Street and begins at 2 p.m. with the ceremony immediately following.

Hiawatha -- American Legion Post 66 will be providing the Brown County Veterans Day dinner at the Hiawatha National Guard Armory, 108 N. 1st St. Command Sgt. Maj. Michael Haeffele, the battalion’s senior noncommissioned officer, will be the keynote speaker for the event. Soldiers from, will provide the color guard during the dinner which begins at 6 p.m.

Emporia – Soldiers of Company A, 2nd Battalion, 137th Infantry will drive an M1A2 Abrams tank in the annual Veterans Day parade. The parade begins at 9 a.m. and starts at 4th and Commercial St. The 184th Intelligence Wing and 190th Air Refueling Wing Honor Guard will be the parade color guard. Company A will be supporting the Veterans Day ceremony at All Veterans Memorial Park in Soden’s Grove, 75 Soden Road, following the parade. Col. Thomas Burke, commander of the 130th Field Artillery Brigade, Manhattan, will be the guest speaker for the ceremony, sponsored by VFW Post 1980. The ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m.

Eskridge -- The 184th Intelligence Wing Honor Guard will take part in the Eskridge Veterans Day Parade at 9 a.m.

Independence – The 190th Air Refueling Wing will conduct a flyover of the Veterans Day parade in downtown Independence in a KC-135 air refueling tanker. The parade begins at 2 p.m.

Iola -- The 35th Infantry Division Band will perform a patriotic concert in the Bowlus Performing Arts Center, 205 E. Madison Ave., at 6:30 p.m.

Kensington – Soldiers of the 995th Support Maintenance Company will take part in a Veterans Day parade.

Lawrence – Soldiers with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Combined Arms Battalion, 137th Infantry, will take part in a Veterans Day parade down Massachusetts St. in downtown Lawrence. The parade begins at 10 a.m.

Leavenworth – The 35th Infantry Division Band will perform in the annual Veterans Day Parade at 10:30 a.m.

Ottawa – The 250th Forward Support Company will provide a color guard and humvee for the annual Veterans Day parade at 11 a.m.

Overland Park – Sgt. Roger Martinez, 35th Infantry Division, will be the guest speaker for a Veterans Day ceremony at the Korean War Veterans Memorial, 119th St. and Lowell Ave. The ceremony begins at 11 a.m.

Tonganoxie – Maj. Jason Innskeep will be the guest speaker at a ceremony at VFW Post 9271, 910 E. 1st St. The ceremony begins at 4 p.m.

Topeka – The Kansas National Guard Teen Panel will support the Superhero Fun Run, Walk and Crawl 5k in downtown Topeka. Registration for the event begins at 7:30 a.m. and the run begins at 10 a.m., starting in the 900 block of S. Kansas Ave. near Harry Colmery Pocket Park.

Soldiers and Airmen of the Kansas National Guard will be supporting Veterans Day events in downtown Topeka and at the state Capitol beginning at 8 a.m. with a parade at 11 a.m. Parade participants will include Guardsmen from 69th Troop Command, 635 Regional Support Group, 73rd Civil Support Team and the 190th Air Refueling Wing. XXX will provide the color guard for the parade.

Lt. Col. Steve Denney, deputy commander, 635th Regional Support Group, will be the guest speaker at a 2 p.m. Veterans Day ceremony at the Great Overland Station, 701 N. Kansas Ave.

Lt. Col. Molly Gillock, commander, 997th Brigade Support Battalion, will be the guest speaker for a Veterans Day ceremony at Rolling Hills Nursing Home, 2400 SW Urish. The ceremony begins at 2 p.m. Certificates of appreciation will be presented to all residents who are veterans.

Wichita -- The 184th Intelligence Wing Honor Guard will be the color guard for a Veterans Day parade in downtown Wichita, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Soldiers from Company C, 2nd Combined Arms Battalion, 137th Infantry, will also take part in the parade. Maj Brett Cleveland, 134th Air Control Squadron, will drive a 5-ton truck in the parade. The 170th Support Maintenance Company will also provide Soldiers and vehicles for the parade.

Lt. Col. Derek Lundgren, Master Sgt. Mike Balevre and Tech. Sgt. Jeremy Lee, 134th Air Control Squadron, will participate in Veterans Day celebration starting at 7 a.m. at Woodland Elementary, 1705 Salina St. During this event 134th ACS members will demonstrate the posting of the colors and perform a flag folding ceremony. Students will have the opportunity to tour military vehicles and participate in a mock PT test to promote health and wellness.

Events scheduled for Monday, Nov. 13

Wichita -- Hilari DeLarosa, 184th Airman and Family Readiness program manager, will be one of the guest speakers at the Wichita Regional V.A. Center, 500 E Kellogg, Bldg 4 auditorium, during a Veterans Day celebration hosted by the Sedgwick County Department of Aging. The event will start at 2 p.m.
