12-050 Kansas National Guardsman receives free car from Cars 4 Heroes

Cars 4 Heroes/ Cars for Christmas presented a free car to the family of Kansas National Guardsmen Sgt. Norman Worden on April 20 at the 58th Annual National Guard Association - Kansas Conference.

Worden, Larned, is a Soldier with Headquarters, 235th Regiment at the Kansas Regional Training Institute at Salina, Kan. He has deployed in the past with the 778th Transportation Company, 714th Maintenance Company, and 1st Battalion, 108th Aviation Regiment.

Maj. Gen. (KS) Lee Tafanelli, the adjutant general, appreciates the continuing support given to local Army and Air National Guard members by Kansas communities and non-profit organizations like Cars 4 Heroes which helps those in need.

"We join the Kansas National Guard to serve our friends and neighbors, and it’s heart-warming to know that when one of our own has a need, there are people and organizations out there eager to step up and lend a hand in return," said Tafanelli.

Cars 4 Heroes is a not-for-profit organization that provides free basic transportation to disadvantaged individuals and veterans. The organization donated a car to Kansas National Guardsmen Master Sgt. Jeffrey Norling on June 8, 2011. Norling’s home was destroyed in the Reading tornado on May 21; and Spc. Cameron Beakley, on Sept. 9, 2011, whose family was without a car while he was deployed to the Horn of Africa with the 1st Battalion, 161st Field Artillery.
