15-027 Kansas National Guard soldiers deploying to support Operation Enduring Freedom

A small contingent of soldiers from the Kansas National Guard’s Detachment 6, Company D, 2nd Battalion, 135th Aviation Regiment (General Support Aviation Battalion) will be honored in a deployment ceremony Thursday, May 28, at Topeka Army Armed Forces Reserve Center, Gary Ormsby Drive and "J" Street, Topeka.

Doors open at 9:30 a.m. and the ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m.

The soldiers will be deploying to Kuwait as part of a Colorado unit to provide aircraft maintenance in support of an aviation task force for Spartan Shield, which is part of Operation Enduring Freedom.

"Air support is always a key element in our military missions," said Maj. Gen. Lee Tafanelli, the adjutant general, "so keeping the aircraft well-maintained and ready to fly is a vital piece of that operation. We wish these soldiers well and know they will do an outstanding job from their first day until the day they come home."
