17-061 Kansas National Guard battalion hosts change of command ceremony

Lt. Col. Erica Christie will relinquish command of the 997th Brigade Support Battalion to Lt. Col. Molly Gillock during a change of command ceremony Friday, June 16 at the Kansas National Guard armory, 721 Levee Drive, Manhattan. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m.

The battalion’s mission is to provide command and control of assigned and attached units, plan and manage logistics support to the 130th Field Artillery Brigade and supported maneuver battalions and to conduct domestic support operations in support of federal and state agencies to protect life and property within the state.

Christie has been commander of the battalion since it was activated in July 2016.

“I have truly enjoyed commanding the 997th Brigade Support Battalion,” said Christie. “The opportunity to stand up new force structure was as rewarding as it was challenging. The Soldiers I have served with over the last two years are true professionals and have helped the battalion grow our capabilities.

“We also built a seamless relationship with the field artillery community,” Christie said. “The 130th Field Artillery Brigade made us feel part of the field artillery team from the beginning and they have been very engaged and responsive throughout my command.”

“I am honored to be taking command of such a great battalion,” said Gillock, “Lieutenant Colonel Christie has done an excellent job standing up the 997th and I will be working hard to continue that effort.”
